Fortnite Season 6 release date: Map details, skins and more news
Fortnite Season 6 is finally here.
Players of the hit gaming series Fortnite had been waitING with bated breath for the launch of Chapter 2 Season 6 and it is finally here - and certainly worth all the waiting and the excitement.
Season 5 was every bit as thrilling as we would have hoped with one of the highlights being the Zero Point event, which featured Ellen Ripley and her nemesis the Xenomorph, both of whom joined the fight in a recent Alien Skins pack, and many other iconic hunters from various franchises.
But now, all eyes are on Fortnite Season 6 and the exciting things that are sure to come with it as it continues. To find out everything we know about it and what else is in store in the coming weeks, keep on reading.
When did Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 start?
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 kicked off on 16th March 2021 which meant we went straight back into it after the conclusion of season 6 - which suits us as we don't like waiting.
Now the update has rolled out and the season has begun there should not be any more downtime but you can get the latest updates on the Fortnite server status from the Epic website.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 slow download
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 is a big file, and so, now that players are downloading it, we'd expect all the usual strain on the servers and our local internet connections. If your download does seem to be taking forever, try these simple steps to speed it up: pause any other downloads you have going on; close any games or apps that are using the same internet connection; move your device as close to your Wifi router as you can, and plug in with an ethernet cable if you can.
What to expect in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6
"You'll play through the culmination of Agent Jones' mission in the Zero Crisis Finale" was the official line on how things were starting in the new season and they were true to their word!
The mission is a solo one and is ready for gamers to play as soon as they log in - although we're guessing a lot of you will have played through this already.
Patch Notes: What do we know about the Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 Battle Pass?
Epic Games kept a tight lid on Fortnite Season 6, but with the new season now upon us we finally know the all-important Battle Pass skins, wraps, and other cosmetics. The big news is two big collaborations, with gaming icon Lara Croft joining the fray (with both a retro and modern variant) as well as Raven from the DC comics series Teen Titans. Fans of original skins need not worry, however - other skins include Cluck the Chicken and Agent Jones himself!
There's a potent rumour that Family Guy's Peter Griffin will be joining Fortnite soon, but it won't be through the Season 6 Battle Pass. A season of content themed around animation and sitcoms could be fun, but perhaps hoping for that is something of a pipe dream (despite the fact that Fortnite has gone to some very wacky places before).
There's also an interesting fan theory going around on Reddit: the portals in Season 5 appeared to be scattered around the map in such a way that, when you connect the dots between their positions on the map, the result is something of a cuboid shape. Could there be some sort of giant cube coming to the game, and might that add a focus on verticality and multi-dimensional gameplay to proceedings? Only time will tell, and we'll bring you all the latest on Fortnite Season 6 as we hear it.
What is the Fortnite Zero Crisis event?
The Zero Crisis Finale, which will bring Agent Jones' current mission to a close, kickstarted this new season and it was revealed in the Zero Point Story Cinematic (which premiered on YouTube with a live event). The solo mission sees players team up with Agent Jones and The Foundation to seal away the Zero Point in a tower of stone.
However, the Zero Point sent out a pulse before it was contained, changing the map once again and erasing any advanced technology on the island - revealing the theme of this season to be Fortnite Primal! And yes, word is that dinosaurs are indeed coming and we could not be happier about it.
Fortnite fans have been hearing about the Zero Point since Season 4 and now we are right in the thick of it. The Zero Point is essentially the centre of all reality in the universe and has the power to change the game's world in many ways.
We would be here for some time telling you all the things that have happened but some of the Zero Point anomalies have been time freezing, locations changing, and the rebirth of the entire universe - see, it's no small thing. But players have been gripped by it and it will be interesting to hear what the developers have planned next, because this epic cosmic anomaly will be a hard one to top.

What new skins are coming in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6?
Well, there are many rumoured, including that Family Guy one that we need to be true but there are a few that we can confidently say will be coming. Lara Croft is on her way with a new design and also keep an eye on Tarana, Raz, Cluck, Raven and Spire Assassin who are coming too. There is also a football-focused one that is due to launch in the coming weeks which will give us a Neymar Jr skin. Many more will likely be coming and we'll mention them as we hear about them!
Not only that but we seem to have an Epic Outfit dubbed The Foundation making its debut in the game soon too. DC Comics character Raven is also set to get a new look and we expect more to be announced (or leaked as if often the case) in the near future.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 map
As mentioned, things are going primitive for the Fortnite map and we will be entering the prehistoric age - if we don't get to fight a T-Rex then we may write a strongly-worded letter. As much as we loved the old style of the map, a change is needed and swapping high-rise flats and modern roads for primitive huts and farmers’ fields is the kind of change we can get behind.
The massive alterations are coming as a result of reality collapsing during the Zero Point event and we were long told that it was going to change the landscape considerably - they were not joking when they said that.
As you can see in the above picture, there is a lot of orange in the wilderness now and key locations such as Colossal Coliseum and Salty Towers now look quite different. A new location, The Spire, has been built in an effort to contain Zero Point and instead of the desert we had in Season 5, we now have a prehistoric forest without any signs of modern life!
